CMS - CARBON MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS INVERTERS

CMS went into voluntary administration in 2013. They mainly manufactured 1500W to 10,000W Inverters
Realistically owners will have no Warranty due to the Company being in receivership.
Your choices are…
We can help you get your system back up and performing through our 68-point Solar health check.

Or we can:
  • Have a qualified Solar Electrician Disconnect and remove your faulty Inverter
  • Return the inverter (at your own expense) to a workshop (possibly interstate).
  • Cost for the unit to be repaired is difficult to determine, as it depends on the extent of repairs required.
  • Freight both ways will be your cost
  • Cost for a licensed electrician to reconnect and test the repaired inverter.
When you consider all of the above expenses, including the cost of your solar ‘downtime’, It would make economical sense to install a brand-new inverter (which would come with a new 5- possibly 10 year warranty).

Troubleshooting diagnosis

The power light on your CMS inverter should be on. The fault light should be off. If the fault light is on, the screen will display a fault code. This will help identify whether your unit is repairable or not.

If the power light is on and the fault light is off, but you are unsure whether the inverter is working, you should monitor the inverter’s yield. (Refer to page 21 of your user manual for the screen sequence.)

Common CMS inverter faults

During your inverter health check our technician will check whether any of these common CMS inverter faults are present and whether your inverter can be fixed.

Isolation faults:
Cause generally, when water enters the wiring installation. If this is not the cause, then it’s very likely you’ll need a new inverter.
Grid faults: These faults occur when the voltage to your inverter is too high or too low. If the grid voltage is found to be within the Inverters allowed parameters, then you’ll probably need to replace your inverter.

No Utility faults:
Check your solar supply main switch in the meter box it may have tripped during a storm or Electrical surge. If it fault continues with the isolators reset to on, the Inverter will require replacement..
Most other faults will require your CMS inverter to be replaced with a new system.

COMMON CMS 1500 AND CMS 2000 FAULT AND ERROR MESSAGES

Operating Message - System Fault & Error Messages Message Description
Isolation fault Isolation failure Earth fault on the solar panels or failure of surge protection
Ground I Fault GFCI active Leakage current to ground is too high
Grid fault Grid failure Grid measured data is beyond the specification (voltage & frequency)
No utility No utility Utility is not available
PV over voltage Input voltage too high Input voltage from the solar panels higher than the max input voltage
Inverter Fault and Error Messages
Consistent fault Consistent failure The readings of 2 microprocessors are not consistent. CPU and/or other circuit not functioning may be the cause.
Over temperature Temperature too high The internal temperature is higher than the normal value
Relay failure Output relay failure The relay between the inverter and grid is not functional
DC INJ High Output DC injection too high Output DC injection is too high
EEPROM failure EEPROM problem EEPROM inside the inverter has a data access problem
SCI failure Problem with communication between microprocessors The communication between MCU inside the inverer is abnormal
High DC Bus DC bus voltage is too high The DC Bus inside is higher than expected
Low DC Bus DC bus voltage is too low The DC bus inside is lower than expected
Ref 2.5V Fault 2.5V reference voltage inside problem The 2.5V reference inside the inverter is abnormal
DC Sensor Fault Output DC sensor abnormal The DC output sensor is abnormal
If you are still unsure call us to see if we can help you over the phone, or book in a  Solar Health check .
You could save big $$$’s with one of our Solar accredited teams expert appraisal.

If you believe that your Inverter may be subject to an Insurance claim please contact us on 07 3274 4365 and advise us of the details.
